The overhead Horizontal Loop was widely used in the period from 1950 to 1970 on tube mills. They are pretty much obsolete today, but still are functional for the medium speed range of 100 to 300 FPM. Some advantages:
- Easy to build - inexpensive
- Low maintenance - few moving parts
